A man who took his dad’s van when he was meant to be repairing it has been given a six-month driving ban.

Barry Maltby, of Tower View, Horsington, only held a provisional licence and was not insured on the Citroen van when he took it out on December 20, Boston Magistrates’ Court has been told.

When the 31-year-old was stopped by police on Boston’s Queen Street, he admitted his father would not want him driving the vehicle.
On Wednesday, he pleaded guilty to taking the van without the owner’s consent, driving with no insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

He was disqualified from driving for six months, fined £240 and given costs of £85 and a surcharge of £20.
