Two men who attacked each other with bottles in a bar have been given suspended jail sentences at Lincoln Crown Court.

Konrad Pasniewski and Maciej Gawronski had drinking and chatting together in the Bar Delight in West Street, Boston, when Pasniewski suddenly pushed Gawronski.

Jonathon Dee, prosecuting, said “Both men were clearly very intoxicated. Pasniewski followed up almost immediately by hitting Gawronski over the head with a beer bottle and then followed that with a couple of punches.

“The door staff intervened and broke them up. Whilst Pasniewski was being held back Gawronski raised the bottle in his right hand and slammed it down on Gawronski’s head.”

Pasniewski was ejected first but managed to return and kicked Gawronski in the head before being led away.”

Neither man was seriously hurt.

Pasniewski, 31, of Carver Road, Boston, and Gawronski, 33, of Forest Dale, Boston, each admitted affray as a result of the incident on 19 January.

At the hearing last Thursday, Pasniewski was given an eight month jail sentence suspended for 18 months with 150 hours of unpaid work and £200 costs. Gawronski was given a four month jail sentence suspended for 12 months with 100 hours of unpaid work and £200 costs.

Beris Brickles, for Pasniewski, said his client had drunk too much and for no apparent reason decided to hit Gawronski.

He said Pasniewski was working and has no previous convictions for violence.

Saleem Khan, for Gawronski, said “He recalls little of the offence due to his intoxication. There was a large degree of provocation. He didn’t start the incident. He cannot understand why he was struck by Pasniewski.”

He described Gawronski as a hard working man who has been in employment since arriving in the UK 10 years ago.
