Park is skating to success

YOUNGSTERS who use the Skirbeck Road skate park are going to see a change in the area in the coming months, as the site is due for a revamp worth thousands of pounds.
A complete transformation will take place at the site from the end of April, with new ramps and jumps put into the park and existing ramps being decorated with murals created by Boston College’s art department.
The project is being managed by the Neighbourhood Policing Team for Boston Town East, which includes that area.
Pcso Naomi Newell, who is involved in leading the project, told The Standard: “It’s a community project. Everyone is involved.
“We hope if everyone gets involved it will be their park and they will want to maintain it.”
Other work set to take place at the park include painting the children’s area and replacing wood chippings with new wetpour safety matting.
The idea to revamp the skate park came about following a neighbourhood panel meeting, where residents said they were worried about anti-social behaviour in the park.
It was thought that if it was brought up to scratch from the ‘run down’ area it is at the moment it would not only take that fear away, but improve the area for everyone.
Funding for the project has been agreed with the Boston Town Area Committee (BTAC) – effectively the town’s parish council – which has ring-fenced up to £20,000 for the task. Other agencies have also contributed.
Police hope the new park area will be up and running in time for the summer.
