A pub manager who was woken by burglars smashing their way into the building ran downstairs to confront them – in just his pants.
The Coach and Horses in Main Ridge East, Boston, was targeted shortly after 7am yesterday (Tuesday) with a gaming machine broken into and cash stolen.
Manager Toby Wood was asleep upstairs when he was woken by a loud bang as the offenders raided the bar.
“I heard them kick the bar door in so I grabbed my baseball bat and came running down,” he said.
“I think they must have heard me as coming after them as they were gone when I got downstairs.
“I was apprehensive about what I would find when I came around the bar – but I just wanted to catch them.”
Mr Wood said he ran out the building round to the front in the hope of seeing the culprits, but they had disappeared.
“They did this in broad daylight – and what makes it worse is I was just wearing bright orange pants at the time and had my toenails painted pink by my daughter the other day,” he said.
Mr Wood was in the building alone when the raid happened, but said his three young children could have been staying with him.
The pub’s owners only took over the premises a few months ago – and have yet to get a new CCTV system.
The burglars made off with just a couple of hundred pounds. The cost of the damage caused is yet to be determined.
