A husband and wife team have been ordered to pay £26,822 after being found guilty of 26 rogue landlord charges, Boston Borough Council has confirmed.

The charges were brought against Dr Kola Akindele and his wife Vanessa by Boston Borough Council at Skegness Magistrates’ Court today (Friday).

The pair had denied all charges but presiding magistrate Kevin Moody said he did not accept the version of events by Vanessa Akindele for how the property at 17 Main Ridge West, Boston came to be in such poor condition.

Vanessa Akindele had blamed the flood of December 2013 for the condition of the property.

Magistrates, however, were told that it was operated as a house of multiple occupation without a licence and had no fire detection equipment fitted.

There were also issues with water penetration through a flat roof, damp and unsafe electrical systems.

Mr Moody said the fines reflected what could have happened at the property which ‘could have led to serious injury or even death’.

Kola Akindele chose to not give any evidence.

Further details regarding the case are set to be released.
