A WOMAN who sneaked into her lodger’s room to steal money was caught after he filmed her on a webcam, a court was told last week.
Cesova Zaliene was repeatedly captured on film going into Stanislav Hristov’s bedroom at their home in Fleming Court, Wyberton, to take money from a bag on the windowsill, a District Judge was told.
Marie Stace, prosecuting, said the 28-year-old was caught out when he left the room to go to the bathroom during a Skype conversation with his wife. When he returned his wife told him Zaliene had been into the room and taken something out of the bag, which contained money and documents.
He decided to use his webcam to record the bag and saw her take money from the bag on three occasions.
It is estimated around £40 was taken throughout February, the prosecution added.
Andrew Goldsborough, defending, said Zaliene had taken up smoking without telling her husband and was using the money to buy cigarettes.
Mr Hristov has now moved out of the house.
District Judge John Stobart told Zaliene: “This was a nasty theft because you had taken the victim into your house and then helped yourself to the money he had worked hard for.”
Zaliene pleaded guilt to theft from the person of another.
She was fined £150 and ordered to repay £50 to Mr Hristov. The judge also told her to pay £85 court costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
