Three charged with church metal theft

THREE people have been charged with the theft of lead from St Mary’s Church in Sutterton after a six-month police operation.

Officers executed synchronised warrants at four addresses in Lincoln yesterday morning at the culmination of an intelligence-led operation against metal thefts.

Three men were charged with thefts and consipracy to steal and one was released on police bail pending further inquiries.

The offences relate to metal at more than 20 churches, including Sutterton.

The three charged were:

*Tadas Andruska, 35, of Roman Pavement, Lincoln: Charged with conspiracy to steal in relation to the theft of lead from 22 churches – a separate charge of theft of lead from a church at Sutterton between April 15 and April 18 last year – a further charge of theft of lead from a church at Little Dalton in Leicestershire between August 23 and August 26 last year.

*Andrius Cereska, 30, of Laceby Street, Lincoln: Charged with conspiracy to steal in relation to the theft of lead from 22 churches – a separate charge of theft of lead from a church at Sutterton between April 15 and April 18 last year – a further charge of theft of lead from a church at Little Dalton in Leicestershire between August 23 and August 26 last year.

*Andrius Kvedavas, 29, of Maple Street, Lincoln: Charged with conspiracy to steal in relation to the theft of lead from 22 churches – a separate charge of theft of lead from a church at Sutterton between April 15 and April 18 last year – a further charge of theft of lead from a church at Little Dalton in Leicestershire between August 23 and August 26 last year.

*A 39-year-old local man was arrested, questioned and released on police bail pending further enquiries till April 25.

The three charged were due to appear at Grantham Magistrates’ Court today.
