Police hunting for convicted murder Robert Newsome have caught him and returned him to custody.

Lincolnshire Police confirmed at about 3pm that Newsome, 58, had been found in the North Shields area.

They said: “North Sea Camp inmate, Robert Newsome, has been arrested in North Shields and returned to custody.”

Wednesday, 12.31pm – A police hunt is on for a prisoner who has failed to return to North Sea Camp open prison.

Convicted murderer Robert Edward Newson, 58, was out on a period of temporary release on temporary licence.

However, he failed to return to the prison, in Freiston Shore, following the period of authorised leave.

He was convicted of murder in 1979.

Newsome had been visiting the Middlesborough area and is believed to have returned to Boston on Friday.

He is then thought to have caught a train from there to Nottingham – and was last seen in Barclays Bank, High Street, Nottingham, just before 5pm on Friday.

Newsome was wearing a light blue jacket, dark trousers and was carrying a small grey rucksack.

Lincolnshire Police have launched an investigation into his current whereabouts.
