Crowds flock for Dragon Boat fun

Crowds gathered on the banks of the River Witham on Sunday for this years annual Dragon Boat Festival to raise money for charity.

The race was won by the Black Pearl team from Martin’s Produce, with SLS Scaffolding coming second and Spice Boys crossing the line third.

Festival director David Witts said the event went ‘extremely well’.

He said: “I think it it’s probably our best attended event. The final was fantastic – there was only four tenths of a second between the boats.

“It was a very good family event with no trouble, and there was only one capsize.”

In the event sponsors’ Motorrace Peugeot came in first, while the most improved team was the Pelo Princesses.

Best dressed was SLS Scaffolding, who wore sailor outfits while team TB Containers raised the most money.

The individual sponsorship competition was won by Guy Priestley who raised about £913 on his own.

Finances are yet to be finalised, but are believed to be in the thousands. Money raised will go to five chosen charities as well as suporters’ choices.
