A MEMBER of Boston and District Athletic Club has been left ‘shocked and honoured’ after their dedication was recognised with an award.
The club’s secretary Nanette Johnson was almost speechless when the surprise presentation was made by the British Association of Track and Field Leagues (BATFL).
She was awarded the association’s Frank Starkie Memorial Cup, which honours its former chairman by recognising the outstanding contribution made by a club or league organiser or official.
BATFL chairman Mike Heath and secretary Alan Johnson were on hand to make the presentation during an open day at the athletic club’s home at the B-Hive in Punchbowl Lane.
“This award is presented to someone who has shown an unwavering dedication to the league or in this case an athletic club,” said Mr Heath. “Nanette is exactly the sort of person who should be receiving this award.”
Mr Heath pointed not only to the organisational role Nanette plays, but also to the many other support roles she fulfils.
Nanette, who admitted she was almost left speechless by the award, said: “It is absolutely fantastic – I am shocked an honoured. But it is not only an award for me but also for everything the club has achieved.
“The athletes are what it is all about – that is why I do what I do.”
