ALL CREATURES great and small turned out to a special pet service at Kirton Methodist Church.

It was a scene reminiscent of an episode of The Vicar of Dibley when pet owners brought their furry – and not so furry – friends along to the weekend event.

The Rev Irena Byron, who conducted the service, said it was quieter than she had hoped because of the bad weather, but described it as ‘a fun time’ for the crowd, which even included a turtle.

She told The Standard: “I was a bit worried about snakes and mice, but we didn’t have any.

“It would have been a matter of keeping them on the right sides of aisle so one didn’t think the other one was breakfast.”

At the service animals in the congregation were blessed and local vet Michael Kettle gave a talk on looking after animals.

The last similar service was in 2008.
