Children at Kirton Middlecott School made more than 150 pizzas with teachers and parents as part of the national Let’s Get Cooking BIG Cookathon 2014.

Pupils rolled up their sleeves to cook a pizza recipe along with more than 100,000 people across the country.

Head of creative technology Lisa Ceaser said: “Our school is in an area of deprivation and a lot of our parents work very long hours and can’t be home at dinner time to cook with their children.

“The Cookathon has given these pupils a great opportunity to learn how to cook one of their favourite dishes from scratch using fresh ingredients.”

The annual event, run by the Children’s Food Trust, aims to get as many people as possible cooking a healthy dish together on the same day.

Local Boston business Freshtime supplied the school with fresh vegetables.

The company’s Julian Dickson said: “We were very pleased to be able to support the school. It’s been a great opportunity for us to make links with our local community and school and be involved in such a wonderful programme to encourage more families to cook from scratch.”
