Pupils have been swapping roles with their teachers as part of a special event at Giles Academy.
About 100 students at the Old Leake school took part in the national Children’s Commissioner’s Takeover Day 2012 last week.
The youngsters practically ran the school for the day - taking lessons, cooking in the canteen and taking on various other roles of staff including manning reception, maintenance and cleaning. But they were not left to their own devices - with members of staff supervising their work.
Deputy head teacher Sue Barnicoat said: “This was our sixth Takeover Day event and it was really lovely to see the pupils taking on the roles of our staff.”
One year 12 pupil, Cael Atkin-Palmer, spent the day in London working for Radio London, Cael is in his second year as advisor to the children’s commission.
The national event is held each year with the aim of giving children and young people the chance to work with adults and be involved in decision-making. Children are said to benefit from the opportunity to experience the world of work and make their voices heard, while adults and organisations gain a fresh perspective on what they do.
