More than 100 year 12 students at Giles Academy have successfully gained their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award.

A presentation was held at the Old Leake school recently to celebrate the pupils’ success.

Guest presenter was Falklands veteran Simon Weston OBE, who was voted the nation’s ‘number one hero’ earlier this year. Simon gave an ‘inspirational’ speech at the event about triumph over adversity, ‘seizing the moment’ and succeeding.

Overall 121 students from the year 12 group were awarded.

Combined with the current year 11 participants, who also completed their award before the summer, this brings the total number of Giles Academy students with bronze award to 246 – a record number for the school.
