Youngsters at St Thomas’ Primary School have been thanking repair and maintenance contractor Kier after workmen ‘stepped in’ to solve a problem and laid more than 50 stepping stones.

The Wyberton Low Road school has an outdoor gazebo and sand pit area but up until recently had no way to get to them when bad weather struck – as it meant having to cross a wet field.

But after approaching Kier that is no longer a problem, with employees Derek Smith and Brian Roberts digging and cementing all the stepping stones.

Kier senior operations manager Pat Mollart said: ”Kier is always mindful of the need to make a positive difference to the places where we live and work, and our employees at all levels show genuine enthusiasm towards our commitment to corporate responsibility.”

“The project with St Thomas has allowed us to help our community in a small way, making a big difference to the daily lives of the pupils,” added Pat.
