Prize guys and girls receive their awards at Middlecott

MIDDLECOTT School pupils ended their term with their annual awards evening.

Former pupil Great Britain sprinter Bernice Wilson returned to the school to hand out prizes to 120 students from years seven to 10 for their achievements over the past academic year.

Miss Wilson, who is from Wyberton, also spoke about her athletics career.

Prizes were handed out to those with 100 per cent attendance and the most improved attendance, as well as for achievements in subject and tutor groups.

Mikey Scarboro, Josh Hillier and Charlie Bonner also picked up an Olympic and Paralympic Value Award, after representing their school in a Lincolnshire student games event.

Sue Illingworth, deputy head teacher, said: “It’s the evening we look forward to most in the year. We celebrate the successes and achievements our students have made.”

l Miss Wilson made the presentation before she was suspended by UK Athletics for testing positive for the anabolic steroids testosterone and clenbuterol on June 12. She has vowed to fight the charges at a full hearing.
