Thomas Cowley High School’s school newspaper, The Cowley Chronicle has won five awards at the Lincoln School of Journalism School Newspaper Project.

Year 10 student Daniel Dicker was awarded ‘Young Journalist of the year’.

The Best Front Page award went to Jaimee Newark, also in year 10, with his front page story on the school’s fundraising for the British Heart Foundation, Jump Rope for Heart.

Deanna Masterman in year 9 achieved ‘The Best News Story’ with her article on the presentation of a laptop to local fireman and Mrs Fay Houltby received a certificate for the ‘Most Outstanding Contribution by a Member of Staff’. The Cowley Chronicle was named as runner up in The Secondary Newspaper of the Year.

Mrs Houltby said: “I’m very proud of all the students who contributed to the three editions of The Cowley Chronicle. They all give up their own time to write the articles and all work very hard.

“The school was competing against 35 other schools in Lincolnshire so this is a very good achievement for us”.
