Change to wind farm plans
A PROPOSED new offshore wind farm is set to be connected to the mains at a substation in Bicker Fen following a change of plans by the company in charge.
RWE NPower Renewables wants to build one of the world’s biggest offshore wind farms, at Triton Knoll, off the coast of Mablethorpe, to power up to 850,000 homes.
They initially planned to bring power inland through a 50 mile network of pylons across East Lindsey but, following a campaign by local residents, the National Grid have now offered use of a substation at Bicker Fen via new underground cabling.
Triton Knoll’s development manager Jacob Hain, said: “We will work alongside National Grid and undertake further technical and design studies to understand what the electrical system will comprise.
“We will also commence environmental and engineering studies to find the best potential sites and routes for the electrical infrastructure.”
The firm is putting together its final planning application to be submitted to the Infrastructure Planning Commission.

Friday, January 27, 2012 at 08:44 AMAre you disillusioned by rising electricity prices, over dependence on the "green" dream [especially uneconomical and inefficient wind farms] and the destruction of our countryside then please register your objection to the Government by googling "petition 22958" and following the link. Please pass this message on to Councillors, members of your community and anyone else you know to persuade them to sign up too. If you are really concerned about wind turbines please write a letter promoting this petition to the Editors of your local newspapers.
