Risk of £100 fine for not having poo bag in Boston Borough villages

Dog walkers in Frampton, Kirton, Sutterton and other villages in the Boston Borough Council will soon face a £100 fine for not clean up after their pets.

From February 1, 2017, the council is bringing in new rules to make it an offence for a dog walker not to be able to show that they have the means to clean up after their dog.

But there will now be a “period of education” so that the public is aware of the forthcoming fines system.

Coun Michael Brookes, cabinet member for waste services, said: “The only people this control will affect are irresponsible dog owners who do not clean up or have consideration for others.”

In addition, the £100 fine will also apply to anyone who doesn’t clean up after their dog and an owner who allows their dog into an enclosed children’s play area or refuses to put a dangerous or nuisance dog on a lead.

The new powers to control dogs are being introduced under the Anti-social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act 2014 after 90 per cent of people who responded to a survey favoured a new offence of dog walkers not carrying a “poo bag”.
