Waste centre plans on the cards

A NEW so-called waste transfer station could be built next to the tip on Slippery Gowt Lane if plans by Lincolnshire County Council are given the go-ahead on Monday.

The authority has applied to construct the station and association items in an attempt to provide a facility to deal with the increasing amount of waste and recyclables set to be produced over the coming years.

It is proposed that the station, which would be built on land currently being used for agriculture, would reduce the number of vehicle movements and minimise the cost of transporting the waste long distances.

Officers at the county council have recommended that the application is approved with a number of conditions to ensure it is acceptable for the area.

In a report to the county’s planning and regulation committee Richard Wills, the executive director for communities, said around 46 vehicles would visit the site each day between 7am and 8pm Monday to Saturday and 8am to 6pm Sundays and Bank Holidays.

A number of complaints have been received by the authority regarding the amount of traffic which would be visiting the site.

Wyberton Parish Council said it had no concerns about the site in principal, but raised concerns about the traffic. Several residents also raised issues about it.

Concerns were also raised about odours from the site, litter, vermin and noise.

A decision will be made by the county council on Monday.
