A BOSTON-based DJ has joined with West Street venue the Axe and Cleaver to put on an alternative club night.
Shaun Phillips has just returned from America after touring with Los Angeles-based hardcore rock band Good Knives – which he joined as lead singer in 2009.
While the band takes a break to write new material, Shaun will be rocking out every Thursday night at the Axe with the new feature Thursday Night Throwdown (TNT).
It will include the rock and metal side of music with a mainstream edge with hits from the 80s to modern day.
Shaun said: “We want to keep the musical side of Boston alive and give people a chance to enjoy the music they wouldn’t be able to hear anywhere else in the town on a night out.
“It’s called TNT because we want to explode onto the local scene, and it’s a killer song by AC/DC as well,” He added.
He has more than 10 years of DJ experience from all over the country, including being a resident at the Met Lounge, in Peterborough.
It is hoped the weekly event will run all the way through the summer and beyond if there is a good enough response from the public.
As for Good Knives, Shaun said he was lucky enough to play the Whisky A Go Go in Hollywood as well as shows in San Francisco.
The band has just finished off recording a music video and finalised plans to record a new album.
They will be touring the UK in 2012.
TNT is on at the Axe and Cleaver at 9pm every Thursday.
