Company's green initiative for pupils

The initiative from Mick George is aimed at providing youngsters with a better understanding of the impact that waste has on the environment.

The business – a leading supplier to the construction trade in the region – has recently opened a base on Boston’s Riverside Industrial Estate, creating about 30 jobs.

It is now setting a challenge for children, alone, in pairs or small groups to create their own robot or ‘Recycle.Bot’ out of recyclable materials while providing information on what superpowers it would have to help the environment.

Each participating pupil will receive a Recycle.Bot badge and certificate, along with a waste and recycling guide filled with facts and tips on how to reduce waste and help protect the environment.

All entrants should be received by May 30 at www.mickgeorge.co.uk/recyclebots, with a photograph of the Recycle.Bot uploaded by July 1.

Three regional winners will be selected on July 11, with the winning applicant as well as their school and classmates being rewarded with the prizes on offer.

Jon Stump, finance director at Mick George Ltd said: “Everyday we see various stories related to the state of the environment, now and in the future. As with many of our initiatives, such as the ‘Safer Roads’ campaign, we’re continuously engaging with local schools to help educate on important matters that will influence children forever. The Recycle.Bots is no different.”

Another community-minded initiative from the business is its £250,000 annual ‘Community Fund’.

This sees money being awarded to worthy local causes. The next round of funding has just begun.
