A rare juvenile red-footed falcon has appeared at Gibraltar Point in Skegness.

Nature reserve warden Kev Wilson said: “This small falcon breeds in Eastern Europe and birds occasionally overshoot their breeding grounds on spring migration and a small number end up in the UK.

“The bird that turned up here on September 24 is a juvenile – the first time ever that a juvenile has turned up in Lincolnshire and one of only a handful of UK records in total.”

He added: “This bird has attracted many birders to the reserve and it has shown very well, even regularly hawking dragonflies over the Beach Car Park and giving some great photographic opportunities.”
