To mark the anniversary of the flood – and the extraordinary community effort to recover – readers can sip a special pint of ale while signing up for vital flood warnings.
Batemans Brewery has teamed up with Boston Borough Council, East Lindsey District Council, Lincolnshire County Council, the Environment Agency and the Boston Standard to mark the community spirit with a Resilience Ale and to encourage more to sign up for flood warnings.
Batemans marketing director Jaclyn Bateman said: “We are delighted to be able to brew a beer that helps celebrate the fantastic resilience and spirit that the local community showed during the very difficult times of last year’s flood. We certainly hope that the local community will take advantage of this offer and sign up to the early flood warning scheme that could give people that vital extra time to prepare as best as they can should an awful flood like this happen again.”
One of the worst-hit properties on December 5 was Batemans’ Britannia Inn.
Daniel and Clive Philpott, of the Britannia, said: “The help we received from our customers and the local community was amazing. Without their help we would not have managed to get our pub up and running again in time for the Christmas holidays. We are more than delighted to help encourage people to sign up for the early flood warning as we know from our own experience the more warnings we have the better chance we have to save the things that are vital to us.”
The ale goes on offer on Friday, December 5, at the special discounted price of just £1.50 a pint from 1.30pm.
Customers have to present the completed cut-out coupon from this week’s Standard to qualify for their cut-price pint of Resilience Ale at participating pubs. This includes a commitment to sign up for the Environment Agency flood warnings, issued at times of high risk via landline, mobile phone, text and email.
You don’t have to wait to register though, you can call Floodline on 0345 988 1188 or visit www.gov.uk/ floodsdestroy
