AN EXTRA 6,000 homes in the Boston floodplain have been signed up to get free flood warnings by telephone.
The Environment Agency launched an opt-out flood warning scheme after the 2007 floods and that has now been extended to more properties in Wrangle Bank, Hubberts Bridge, Kirton Holme, Sutterton, Algarkirk, Swineshead, Bicker and Kirton End.
All affected properties should have been informed via recorded telephone messages.
The messages encourage people to contact Floodline, or visit the Environment Agency’s website for more information. The service is free and residents can opt out if they wish.
The Environment Agency is running a national campaign to raise awareness of flood risks in the winter.
