A PARADE of stock cars led mourners at the funeral of a driver who died in a freak accident during a race.

Well-known driver Steve Newman, from Quadring, died during a race at Mildenhall in Suffolk on June 16, and his funeral took place on Monday in Gosberton.

St Peter and St Paul’s Church was filled with people saying their final farewell to the 36-year-old, and the service was relayed through speakers to ensure that everybody could hear.

The Rev Ian Waters, who led the services, said: “Steve was a well-known and respected figure in our community and he will be greatly missed by very many people.

“Our prayers and thoughts are particularly with his children at this time, who attend a local village school and are going to need the love and support of their family and friends.

“We will hold them and all who will be deeply moved by this tragic loss in our own prayers and hearts.”
