A RAGS to riches classic story is coming to Blackfriars Theatre and Arts Centre.
The fairytale Cinderella will be performed by the Vienna Festival Ballet at the Spain Lane venue, at 5pm, on Saturday.
Based on the traditional story, the ballet promises to ‘touch everyone’s heart with its combination of pure classical dancing and a touch of pantomime’.
It tells the story of a downtrodden young girl, a glass slipper, two ugly-stepsisters and a fairy godmother.
When Cinderella is able to go to the ball with a wave of her godmother’s magic wand she falls in love with the prince but when the clock strikes midnight she has to flee, leaving behind her glass slipper.
The prince, who has fallen in love with her, searches the kingdom high and low to find her again declaring ‘The girl whose foot fits the slipper shall be my wife.’
With a specially-commissioned score, created by Chris Nicolls, and taken from some of Rossini’s most famous operas including La Cenerentola, the Italian Girl in Algiers and Silken Ladder it promises a show that will astonish and amaze.
The music was recorded by a leading orchestra in Kosice, Slovakia, conducted by Mr Nicolls.
It is choreographed by Sheila Styles, from the Sadlers Wells Royal Ballet, through inspiration from the choice of music.
The show starts at 5pm.
