A GROUP of green heroes who went the extra mile for the environment have been recognised and celebrated by Boston Borough Council.

Six people were nominated for special awards from the authority to show the borough’s appreciation for the work they do to keep the area clean and tidy and ensure Boston is doing its bit towards helping the planet.

At a special event at the Municipal Buildings last month, these six unsung heroes received prizes and framed certificates from Coun Mary Wright, the mayor of Boston.

Those who won the awards were Les Budding and Frank Thompson, who have done a lot of work in the town’s Memorial Garden, Sue Morrison, the head of the John Fielding School, who has instigated a number of projects to improve parts of the town, Mike Jessop, who co-ordinated the street pastors scheme in Boston, Simon Baxter, who works on Brandon’s fruit stall, and encourages other stallholders to recycle as much as possible, and Pete Desforges, who does a lot of voluntary work in the Witham Way Country Park.

After presenting the awards, Coun Mary Wright said: “We all appreciate the time and effort these people put into keeping a healthy and green environment in our town for all to enjoy.”

Sue Morrison was unable to attend the event, but all other winners are pictured above.
