Decision delayed on care services
A DECISION on the future of six day centres that serve elderly and vulnerable people has been delayed following ‘unprecedented’ feedback from the public.
Four centres in Boston – at Field Street, Manning Court, Scott House and the Thistles – plus a centre in Kirton and the services run by BOSSCAT could all be axed by Lincolnshire County Council under a major countywide shake-up of its adult social care.
The council was due to discuss its policy at the adult scrutiny committee before making a final decision in February, but has now deferred that until March to go through the responses.
The authority received more than 550 questionnaires, more than 50 letters and feedback from more than 60 consultations events, staff, petitions and one-to-one feedback sessions.
Coun Graham Marsh, executive member for adult social care and supporting people, said: “We said at the start of the consultation that we were keen to hear everyone’s views and that nothing was off the table.
“We’ve been delighted to receive unprecedented levels of feedback and thank everyone for their contribution.
“As a consequence, adult social care is being allowed more time to give proper consideration of every view and to ensure thorough analysis of the findings.”
The council is looking to roll out ‘Personal Budgets’ – where it hands over money to individuals to fund their own care rather than paying to provide it themselves.
The day centres currently cater for the elderly, disabled and people with severe learning difficulties. There are 30 at risk as well as two short break “respite” homes which offer accommodation in order to give carers some time off.
Some Boston residents use the service at Cedar House in Spalding which is also under threat.
The council’s adult scrutiny committee will now consider the report towards the end of Februart and the matter will go to the March 6 executive meeting for a final decision.
