Fund for maternity improvement

THE maternity ward at Pilgrim Hospital is set for a host of improvements this year, following the securing of more than £600,000.

United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust (ULHT), which runs the Sibsey Road hospital, has agreed to stump up the cash for changes needed on the ward, including draught-proofing the windows and creating new single-sex accommodation bathrooms.

The money was released after Boston MP Mark Simmonds met with Health Secretary Andrew Lansley and asked him to review the needs of Pilgrim.

The MP said: “I am hopeful that this money will go a long way to improving standards of care and patient experience.”

A spokesman for ULHT said the money would be used to bring the unit up to current guideline standard.
