Volunteers are needed to support a network of free health walks across the borough.

There are 11 organised walks in Boston which take place on every day of the week, at various times and in vario, including around Central Park, Boston Market Place, Haven bank, Swineshead, Kirton, Old Leake, Donington and more. There are also organised bus trips to other places such as Tattershall Lakes, Snipedales and Freiston Shore.

Currently 120 volunteers support 70 regular health walks each week across Lincolnshire, but more are needed to meet the demand of almost 3,000 regular weekly walkers. Health walks are suitable for beginners and welcome new members at any time, with no long-term commitment.

Sarah Clarke, physical activity manager at Lincolnshire Sports Partnership, said: “Participants learn more about their local area, enjoy the fresh air and look forward to seeing friends and meeting new people. Often there is a café visit at the end of the walk and lots of groups have formed close friendships and socialise after the walk has ended.

“Becoming a volunteer walk leader is a wonderful way to give something back to the community while improving your health, meeting new people and encouraging others to take part in regular activity.”

To become a walk leader individuals will attend a one-day training session. They will then work with their local district coordinator to support or initiate health walks in their local area.
