A BOSTON councillor has met with the Government’s new health services minister Daniel Poulter to campaign for better handling of MRSA cases.
Coun Andrea Jenkyns, county councillor for Boston North West, said: “He listened intently to how I got involved with MRSA Action UK after losing my dad through MRSA, and I told him about the lack of care for my dad, that I had witnessed in the hospital.”
Her father was treated at a hospital outside Lincolnshire.
Coun Jenkyns asked a variety of questions, including why only infections in the blood stream are currently reported, and not those infected in the surgical site area.
“This meant my Dad’s death is not recorded in the official statistics,” she said.
“Dr Poulter agreed to look into this and promised to get back to me. He also agreed we need a zero tolerance approach to hand hygiene.”
