THE training pool at the Geoff Moulder Leisure Complex has re-opened after being closed for two years because of money woes.

Members of Boston Amateur Swimming Club and representatives from Boston Borough Council turned out to the pool for the re-opening last Monday, after a partnership was agreed between the council, the Witham Schools Federation and the swimming club, which will see the council lay out £195,000 for the pool and the other parties pay back £150,000 over the next five years.

Although the move has been welcomed by councillors, several opposition members have raised concerns over plans for the repayment of the money, and asked for the decision to be called in so the it can be examined.

Deputy Labour leader Coun Paul Gleeson, one of the people who requested the call-in, said: “I want the pool to be open, but I want it to be open with a view that is sensible and is going to last for the next five years. There are a lot of serious questions we need to ask.”

The decision is due to be discussed by the performance review committee on Monday.
