So we ask you to join us once more and provide a child with a very special gift ready for Christmas.

To take part in this simple task of giving, all you need to do is pop into the Standard’s office at 5-6, Church Lane, Boston, collect a free flat pack box and fill it with those every day essentials, that most of us take for granted.

These boxes to go children of all ages and also includes teenagers and the elderly.

So what can you put in these boxes?

Suitable items for this year’s Rotary Shoeboxes include: Toys such as matchbox cars, bouncy balls, dolls, colouring books and felt tips, jigsaws and Lego. (But please avoid, sweets, chocolates and toys that require batteries).

For a box that would be ideal for a teenager, why not fill it with make-up, toiletries, comb, writing materials, sports wear and football memorabilia for the lads and those all important winter essentials: hats, gloves and scarves.

Or if you want your box to go to an elderly person, why not add in some vital household goods: hand soap, toothpaste and brushes, envelopes, paper, pens or even washing powder and shampoo.

When your box is full, please attach a £1 coin and tape it to the top of the box to cover the cost of transporting to the ones who need it. Filled boxes must be returned to us by Friday, November 7.

The Rotary then deliver your boxes to those living in Eastern Europe. The items we may take for granted in our daily lives, can make a huge difference to some of the poorer families living out there who have no means of getting these things.

For example, giving the gift of a toy could be the first present they have ever received.

Rotary International is urging people like you to help bring a ray of hope to those who have lost all sight of it, so please help give someone the ultimate gift to put that smile back on their face.
