THE deadline for teams to enter the town’s first dragon boat festival is fast approaching – and organisers are asking for people to confirm their entry.
The Boston Dragon Boat Festival will take place at Witham Way Country Park, Tattershall Road, on Sunday, August 14.
It is the first such event in the town and organisers say they have had at least 10 teams sign up and a number of teams promising to.
There is only space, however, for 36 teams to sign up so organisers are asking those who want to take part to confirm and pay their entry fee as soon as possible, with the final deadline being Thursday, June 30.
Organiser David Witts said: “Some people think August is a while away yet, but it’s not.
“We’re not going to be able to accommodate everybody but a sudden rush at the end won’t help.”
The Dragon Boat Festival will consist of teams of 11 racing up and down the River Witham, starting from 10am.
Six teams will go through to the semi-final and the three winners will go through to the final race at 5.30pm.
There will be more than 100 trade stalls, food stands, rides and more lining the race track and it is hoped 3,000 people will attend the event.
Organisers have said it is a great team-building exercise and companies have already experienced motivational benefits.
Money raised by teams taking part will be split equally between the S John Stevens Memorial Trust, which aims to promote healthy living and healthy heart, and the charity of the team’s choice.
Entry costs £400 per crew and they must comprise 8-10 paddlers plus a drummer. The minimum age is 16 years and no previous experience is required.
