The advice came courtesy of logistics firm Gist, which visited the school as part of its child road safety programme, bringing along one of its lorries.

The visit saw children learn about the specific issues of safety around large vehicles, as well as general road safety.

Pupils got the chance to see for themselves the sheer size of the lorry and learn how this impacts on stopping distances through a selection of games.

They also had the chance to go in to the cab and experience the views from the driver’s seat and what a lorry driver sees while out on route.

Mick Spiller, child road safety presenter at Gist’s Spalding depot, said: “Our ambition is to help make our communities as safe as possible.”
