We are trying to trace the widow of Sgt John Sargeant DFM of Frithville, now re-married but probably still living in Boston.
This is simply to alert her to upcoming publicity about John. The inspirational story of a local 19-year-old’s part in a struggle to get a crippled Lancaster back from Berlin with a shattered knee that he did not mention when he dragged an injured gunner out into a life raft in the North Sea is about to be publicised.
Frithville was the home of an officer who was awarded the Military Cross during the First World War and of John, who was awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal in the Second World War.
John survived the war because he was recovering in Rauncby Hospital when the rest of the surviving crew were shot down and killed. He ran a tyre fitting business in Boston.
