03/10/07 - A facility worth preserving
I WOULD like to draw your attention to our interest in the Cuckoo Land community project site and its potential future.
This area is an absolute oasis of natural grassland. Not only can we walk the dogs, but the wildlife is many and varied. We have water voles, stoats, weasels, deer, a myriad of butterflies, grasshoppers, frogs, bees, moles, all three species of woodpecker, sparrowhawk, kestrel and marsh harrier has been known.
There are white throats in the summer months. There are fish in the drain and leeches, and the whole mini-ecosystem seems to be thriving. There are even some trees and the flora is extremely diverse. A tawny owl has been seen.
I am uncertain about plans for the area but suggest it is left as it is – an unspoilt meadow everyone can enjoy. There are not many left.
The neighbourhood appreciates the council's response to a request to facilitate access to the area by clearing excess growth.
