Astonished at market spending plans

We were rather astonished to read of the proposed 2 million pounds spend on the Market Place when money has already been spent on it in the not too distant past.

If it is to be pedestrianised where will all the cars go - bearing in mind that much of Boston's car parking is of a temporary nature?

We already have a superb facility to use as a play area for children and a place to display public art – Central park – if there is money to be spent why not use it to improve that facility?

The market itself is already one of the best in the area so why try to change it?

There are a number of areas in Boston which are in desperate need of money being spent on them, having had litte or no improvements for many years. South High St/ London Rd is but one example.

This is the area of Boston's first 'place check' and consultations have already been held with the residents about how they would like to see their area improved.

This road leads from the new lock into town and any visitors who arrive by boat will walk down this road to the Market Place and the Stump, or will they?

Most probably they will turn road and go back to their boats and move on because all they can see is derelict buildings and litter. With support from the council, police, the Environment Agency and Heritage Lincolnshire this area could once again be an area of which Boston could be proud.

The history of this particular road is as important as the history of the Market Place if not more so and it is time the authority realised that Boston is not only the area in the centre.
