Barrier may not work

I write this as a retired design engineer who, for the last 15 years prior to retirement, worked as a consulting engineer in the field of ports, harbours and marinas.

I find it difficult to understand how a barrier in the middle of town is going to protect downstream, particularly as the Environment Agency’s own consultants state that the biggest surge risk is through the docks.

Let us hope that the insurance companies are not as cynical as me.
