Letter: can you help: Malaya river launch history - 30/06/10

WE ARE trying to research the history of a river launch we acquired last year.

It is called Malaya and was built by Banhams of Cambridge for a Mr Hugh Poths, of Boston.

He was apparently a rubber planter in Malaya who selected and imported the teak from which the boat was built in 1926.

The boat was featured in an article in the Motor Boat magazine on April 2, 1926, and was apparently intended to enable Mr Poths to cruise the canals and rivers of Britain, and possibly Europe too eventually.

We can supply recent photographs of the boat, which is in remarkably good condition considering its age.

We would love to hear from anyone who can help us with any information about Mr Poths and the boat. We can be contacted by phone on 01606 851924, or by post to 3 Dutton Locks, Acton Bridge, Northwich, Cheshire, CW8 3QQ.
