Lock opeining let down
I write in respect of the eagerly-awaited official opening of the Black Sluice Lock and marina area on March 20.
As a former resident of this area it was with anticipation I made a special visit to Boston to witness the ceremony, which to my mind is a very positive step forward for an area which has been an eyesore for so long.
What a disappointment! The recently re-surfaced footpath was closed to all but specially invited dignitaries and celebrities (who no doubt will not visit the area again!).
Instead, the general public (including residents who had endured the inconvenience over several months) had to view from across the road in Somerfield car park.
What a shame the marquee could not have been erected in the car park where the new visitor centre and coffee shop is and that everyone could not be invited to participate.
From where the public were in Somerfield car park all you could see was the rubbish on the banks by the new pontoon that the council had not even organised for someone to tidy up prior to the day. The sound system was inadequate and nobody could hear any speeches.
It appears not enough effort was put in, and a later date enabling the whole area around the visitor centre to be completed, ie landscaped and planted, would have made it much more attractive. Plus, of course, full access for everyone along the footpath!
