Lincolnshire Police investigate racist abuse aimed at Man City defender Micah Richards

RACIAL abuse aimed at Manchester City and England footballer Micah Richards could have come from somewhere in the area according to police.

Lincolnshire Police have confirmed they are investigating reports of the abuse directed at the defender via twitter.

A police spokesman said initial reports said the account used was from a Skegness area but the information had been deleted before the investigation could confirm the details.

They added that the person could have said they were from the area but could actually be from elsewhere and that the investigation would take a while.

Det Insp Andy Wardell, from Skegness CID, said: "Whilst the investigation is still in its early stages, Lincolnshire Police will be conducting a robust enquiry and wish to make it clear from the outset that racist comments aimed at anybody, not just those in the media spotlight, will not be tolerated.

“Those committing such offences can expect to be pursued and dealt with under the relevant legislation".

Anyone with information should contact Skegness Police Station by dialling 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
