A celebration fit for a Queen

These are just a few of the highlights of a bonanza royal celebration weekend in Boston for the Queen’s 90th birthday this month.

Boston Town Team’s plans for the weekend of June 11-12 include a variety of royal-themed fun competitions, activities and live music from the 1920s to the present day.

There will be a traditional street party in the Market Place on Sunday, for 90 invited guests, in a marquee. Members of the public are welcome to join in, but must bring their own seating and refreshments.

There will also be live entertainment at the Ingram Memorial, a cake comeptition, a Queen lookalike contest, a children’s teddy bear trail and teddy bear parade.

Jenny Elwick, from the Boston Area Chamber of Commerce, which is behind the Town Team said: “We want to bring everyone together to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday, and already there’s a huge feelgood factor among all the people and businesses who have offered to help.

She added: “The Town Team is excited about delivering this special event.”

The sight of 50 royally-dressed teddy bears ‘abseiling’ down the Stump will greet visitors to the town centre.

The Boston Royal Bear Challenge takes place at 2pm on June 12 and those wishing to take part can sign up for sponsorship, costing £5 for individuals or £50 for businesses. The church will also be hosting a teddy bears’ picnic, craft stalls, face-painting, a bouncy castle and more.

Regal revelry starts at Pescod Square on June 11, from 10am to 3pm, where the free event includes a street party with live performances.

People can bring along deck chairs and picnic baskets to the event, but are being reminded that Boston is an alcohol-free zone.
