A new nhs dentist's to open in boston

Updated, Wednesday, July 26, 9.30am: THOUSANDS of people waiting for dental treatment in Boston could soon get to see an NHS dentist.

Plans to open a new practice in the town by the autumn have just been unveiled by the East Lincolnshire Primary Care Trust.

The service will be provided by existing county dentists and by independent practitioners moving to the area.

The Government has given Lincolnshire 1.8 million to improve its NHS dental services after it became clear current practices were failing to meet patient demand.

Boston is one of several towns throughout the county to receive some of this cash. Others include Skegness and Spalding.

The number of people in Lincolnshire currently waiting to see an NHS dentist is 9,700, with an average waiting time for each patient of six months.

The East Lincolnshire PCT believes this waiting time will noticeably improve when the new contracts take effect.

Tim Rideout, acting chief executive of East Lincolnshire Primary Care Trust (PCT), said: "Our overall aim is to provide an accessible NHS dentistry service to everyone in Lincolnshire who needs it." Nationwide advertising attracted interest from all over the country and the new contracts will increase the availability of NHS dental services in Lincolnshire by more than one-third of the level previously available.

Mr Rideout added: "I am delighted with the progress we have made in securing extra NHS dental capacity for the people of Lincolnshire.

"We will continue to monitor and wherever possible, improve on our dental services."

Patients who need an NHS dentist are asked to register their details on a contact list by ringing 01522 515386 or by emailing dental.helpline@westlincs-pct.nhs.uk
