A new legal challenge to save a children’s heart unit used by families in Boston has begun at the High Court today.
Consideration will be given to plans to stop children’s heart surgery at Glenfield Hospital in Leicester during the procedure. It is one of four hospitals facing the axe after the Government proposed moving surgery to fewer, larger sites, which it says could be more specialised and provide better care.
However, the change would mean children with heart defects in Lincolnshire would have to travel to Birmingham or London for procedures which are currently carried out much closer to the area, which could cause major problems for families.
Campaigners have fought the decision since it was announced last July.
