Boston gets a clean bill of health
Wednesday, 11.45am - BOSTON'S Food Safety Team has been given a clean bill of health in a follow up audit, which highlighted new procedures as being best practice for other authorities to follow.
The audit by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) of Boston Borough Council's team found improvements in service delivery.
An initial audit in 2008 identified a backlog of inspections and the need for improvements in monitoring procedures.
Cou Gerry Clare, portfolio holder for regulatory services, said: "The initial audit identified the excellent work of the Food Safety Team in respect of a FSA national project to assist small caterers comply with new EU food laws.
"The team had prioritised its other higher risk food premises inspections whilst undertaking the small caterers' project but a backlog of lower risk inspections had built up at the time of the initial audit."
He added: "I am very pleased to report that the inspection backlog has now been cleared and improved monitoring procedures have been implemented to the satisfaction of the FSA. In fact the FSA flagged up some of the new monitoring procedures as 'best practice' which they will commend to other councils.
"I would like to thank the Food Safety Team for their hard work and commitment to ensuring good standards of hygiene in food businesses. Boston Borough Council strives to improve all services and the audit outcomes demonstrate what can be achieved."
