Campaigners say they want this weekend’s anti-immigration protest to be a ‘civilised’ chance for the ‘silent majority’ to speak out.
Protestors will hold a demonstration around the Herbery Ingram Memorial in Boston from 2-3pm on Sunday.
The protest is expected to attract anywhere between 50 and 150 people.
The event is likely to put Boston into the wider spotlight and campaigners say they are determined it will not be hijacked by far-right and racist groups.
Campaigner Bob MacAuley said: “We want this to be a peaceful protest. We would like to see the silent majority of people that are dissatisfied with the situation come into the Market Place for an hour and tell the Government that enough is enough.
“We have got to be seen as a civilised respectable town that can voice its opinion without resorting to violence and stupidity – it’s vitally important.”
The group was disappointed with a Boston Borough Council Task and Finish group which suggested measures to help the town deal with the impact of population growth following an inquiry.
The borough council and police insist it will be ‘business as usual’ in the town on Sunday and that they have planned to deal with the event.
A joint statement on the protest issued by Boston Borough Council and Lincolnshire Police said: “Lincolnshire Police and Boston Borough Council have been working with the protest organisers to ensure they hold a peaceful protest.
“This event is being policed by local officers and anyone intent on causing disruption or public disorder will be dealt with swiftly and robustly.
“It will be business as usual in Boston on the day.”
