Chelsea flower show joy for Gillian

Thursday, 2pm -BOSTONIAN Gillian Fountain has been left blooming with pride after being accepted into Chelsea Flower Show.

Mrs Fountain, 63, of Revesby Avenue, will feature in the floral arts category later this month at the prestigious show held at the Royal Hospital, Chelsea.

This will be the Boston Flower Lovers Club member's fourth appearance at the show.

Entrants were given artistic licence to create their own themes for the displays, and Mrs Fountain chose global warming.

Her entry will feature a number of different flowers including anthurium, delphinium, gerbera and the calla lily black-eyed beauty, which will all be collected two days before she has to set up her display.

A 4ft x 4ft stand was built by carpentry and joinery students from Boston College who kept to the theme by making it out of recycled wood.

It helps to build the 3D picture effect Mrs Fountain wanted in her design with each frame moving from cold to hot.

Mrs Fountain said: "I'm getting a bit nervous. There is a lot of preparation involved.

"I thought I would get the college involved in making the stand. I told them what I wanted and they've built it. It's wonderful.

"At the show, I'll start at 9.45pm and will finish around 6am. It'll take all night to set up."

Mrs Fountain expects the floral arts category to be judged on May 22.

The show runs from May 20-24.
