A celebration and service was held at St Nicholas Church, Skirbeck, recently to mark the Rev Richard Westland’s 25 years with the church.
A celebratory sung mass was held at the church, in Fishtoft Road, which was filled to the brim with well-wishers and worshippers.
Mr Westland, 86, was marking the silver jubilee of his ordination into the priesthood, and 25 years working as a lay reader for churches across the area.
Following the service, there was a reception in the committee hall next door where Mr Westland was presented with a cake and cards and speeches from wellwishers, including the churche’s Father Paul Noble.
“It was overwelming,” he said. “It gave me such a feeling of joyfulness. It was a full church, I couldn’t believe it and I’m still shaking my head about it now.”
